Popsicle Day

Yesterday Andrew went for his ear surgery at the Children's Hospital.  He couldn't eat after midnight, but was able to have clear fluids until 730 am.  We had a breakfast of apple juice, and apple juice popsicles that I froze the night before.  The boys thought popsicles for breakfast were the best.

Andrew went for an orientation a week before the surgery and they had photos a little girl had taken from her surgery experience, so was keen to have photos of his day.  Here he is coming into the hospital lobby.

Here he is in the Day Surgery Unit.  They gave him "4 year old" hospital PJs, which were a wee bit small for our 4 year old.  The pants were like capris on him.  He was getting a bit nervous hearing all the other children crying around us.  He was able to stay occupied waiting by watching a "Little Bear" DVD, and hanging out with Dorothy the penguin.
He liked riding the bed to the surgery waiting area.  Here he is waiting and having a little tea party with Dorothy.

Dorothy was a good friend and accompanied him into the operating room after mommy had to leave.  The surgery itself was pretty quick.  In the end he got a tube put in his one ear, and a spot they were going to look at on the other turned out to be a cholestoma which can be very serious, but thankfully was caught at what seems to be an early stage.

All is well that ends with a popsicle!  It is the only food they have in the recovery room, to the delight of all the children.
