Cake Wrecks

I read about the cake wrecks blog which shows professionally decorated cakes gone horribly wrong.  It can be quite funny.  If it is your thing check out www.cakewrecks.blogspot.com .

Happy Valentine's Day!!

The kids were very excited for Valentine's Day this year.  The day before Matthew was making cards for everyone, and we made sugar cookies.

Here they are icing their heart cookies.

Valentine's morning Andrew was so excited he was racing around the kitchen.  It was hard to capture a photo, I should have tried to video it.

Matthew had made a surprise banner, with a card on for each of us.

The boys were happy with their Valentine's treats including a heart lollipop and a box of Valentine's smarties they consumed before breakfast.  I saved my Bernard Callebauts for later.

Matthew got a Geronimo Stilton Valentine's book, and Andrew got some heart window stickies.  He was most proud of making our window beautiful for all the passers-by to see.

Emily took in all the activity and liked her little Dora lunch box.  She was especially pleased when she could swing around and go "Wheeeee" with daddy.

Feb Fun

Here the kids are playing in a "straws and connectors" house they built.  It is teachers' convention, so the boys are off school.

Here is Emily the artist at work.  She was fresh out of the bath, so her hair had a bit of curl to it, but it straightens up pretty quickly.

Stylish Emily at the party.  It reminds me of the Facebook group  "My kids dress nicer than I do"!
Proud Andrew in his new hockey jersey.

Emily loves, as she says, "going wheeeeeee".  This is being spun around, going upside down.  Matthew caught her being twirled around by daddy.

Sometimes you just need to have a bit of down time.

Popsicle Day

Yesterday Andrew went for his ear surgery at the Children's Hospital.  He couldn't eat after midnight, but was able to have clear fluids until 730 am.  We had a breakfast of apple juice, and apple juice popsicles that I froze the night before.  The boys thought popsicles for breakfast were the best.

Andrew went for an orientation a week before the surgery and they had photos a little girl had taken from her surgery experience, so was keen to have photos of his day.  Here he is coming into the hospital lobby.

Here he is in the Day Surgery Unit.  They gave him "4 year old" hospital PJs, which were a wee bit small for our 4 year old.  The pants were like capris on him.  He was getting a bit nervous hearing all the other children crying around us.  He was able to stay occupied waiting by watching a "Little Bear" DVD, and hanging out with Dorothy the penguin.
He liked riding the bed to the surgery waiting area.  Here he is waiting and having a little tea party with Dorothy.

Dorothy was a good friend and accompanied him into the operating room after mommy had to leave.  The surgery itself was pretty quick.  In the end he got a tube put in his one ear, and a spot they were going to look at on the other turned out to be a cholestoma which can be very serious, but thankfully was caught at what seems to be an early stage.

All is well that ends with a popsicle!  It is the only food they have in the recovery room, to the delight of all the children.
