New for Spring

With spring comes a lot of firsts.  Here are some of the new things up with us.  Matthew is living my dream and taking up skateboarding.  I love watching good boarders, but alas have always been too balance challenged to do much of it myself.  Luckily he seems to have more of a knack for it.

Andrew participates in a gross motor group and was able to try out some rock climbing.  He liked it when he was looking up, but got a bit scared when he saw how high he had gotten himself.

Matthew's school had a family fun night at a local roller rink.  Andrew was able to try roller skates for the first time.

There was quite a bit of up and down though.

Everyone liked the pizza, watermelon and cookies.  Emily was a bit miffed she did not get to go on skates this time around.  She will have to wait until next year at least.

Andrew has started more reading and is printing his name.  I love the "R" of an early printer.

Okay this might not be new, but I sure haven't been skipping in a while! Matthew is practicing up for a "Jump Rope for Heart" fundraiser.  He wanted to see if I could skip and do cross overs.  I am pleased to report that I could still do them, though it took quite a bit of effort.

Spring Celebration

Andrew's school had their Spring Celebration at the end of April.  Everyone was assigned a letter of the alphabet to bring something for the Alphabet Buffet.  We got "E" which doesn't sound that hard, but when you think about it there aren't too many kid friendly foods that start with E.  We crossed off the Eel, Eggplant, Edname, Elephant, and decided to go with Eggs.  We did Jelly Bean Eggs for the kids and an Egg Strata with Smoked Salmon for the adults.  They were a hit with their respective target audiences.  Andrew and Emily are always assistant chefs in the kitchen, and here you can see Emily helping with the egg dish.

Blue Shirt Andrew obviously knew his mom was taking a photo of him.  The kids are getting ready to sing a few songs.

Handsome Andrew dressed up for the Celebration.

Enjoying the Alphabet buffet is always a highlight.  Some favorites for the kids were I (ice cream cone cupcakes) and J (jello jigglers).  My personal favorites were D  and S (freshly made dolmathes and spring Rolls.  I hadn't realised most of the restaurant dolmathes are actually canned.  The homemade ones were heavenly.
